Relationships are vital
At First Glance we are often asked to describe what we do and what our organization is all about. To be honest, sometimes we struggle to answer such questions. It’s not because we don’t know what we do, why we do it, or what it’s all about. It’s because what we are passionate about at First Glance can be hard to describe. Our mission is to “connect students & their communities to Christ & the church through real, loving, & non-theatening avenues”. At our core, we desire to be a tangible expression of the gospel in our community by the way we love others and how we build lasting relationships with our students, volunteers, community partners, supporters, and each other. Those relationships are where we see the most real expression of God’s love. They are an opportunity for us to model what it means to treat someone as one who is made in the image of God. That means treating others in such a way that affirms their dignity and worth. It also means becoming a family in the spiritual sense and that we lay down our lives to fight for the highest good of others.
Over the last few months we’ve been reminded of how central relationships are to what we do and how much we value those we’ve been able to cultivate. We are thankful for our students. We are thankful for the churches, businesses, community organizations, etc that we are able to partner with and who support us. We are thankful for our staff and volunteers who take the time to love our students and affirm their worth and value in Christ. We are thankful for our donors and all who make what we do possible. As you’ll continue to see, relationships are key to what we do, who we are, and are what we’re all about. There are many upcoming opportunities in the next few months where we will get to celebrate and cultivate those relationships, and we couldn’t be more excited!
